Great subject Oak! I think that the suffering in this world will be the basis for eternal happiness in the next. People on this earth have historically experienced poor government, war, natural disasters, famine, untimely death, corruption, ill health, disloyalty, cheaters, violence, and many other causes of mortal suffering. But these things will one day be done away. The scripture points out that "if they never should have bitter they could not know the sweet" (D&C 29:39). I think the bitter in this world will not only help to teach us the laws of life, but will give us a deep appreciation for the sweet things we will receive in eternity.
